Whether you’re looking for a Makita cold cut saw, a DeWalt model or another quality brand, you’ll find the best cold cut saw for your next job at Tool Kit Depot.
Unlike abrasive saws, cold cut metal saws slice through the workpiece at low speed, keeping the material cool and leaving burr-free edges that don’t need extra finishing. That means less grinding, cleaner joins and faster fit-up times. From heavy-duty production setups to portable site work, options like a cold cut drop saw give you flexibility without sacrificing cut quality.

A cold cut saw gets its name because it produces very little heat while cutting. Unlike abrasive discs that create sparks and hot edges, a metal cold cut saw slices clean and cool, leaving the material safe to handle straight off the saw.
Key features:
Cuts metal at low blade speeds
Produces little to no heat on the material
Leaves burr-free, cool-to-touch edges
Reduces the need for post-cut grinding
Safer for users and nearby materials compared to abrasive saws
What is a cold saw used for?
A cold saw is used to cut steel, aluminium, pipe, bar and metal sections with clean, square edges. A cold cutting saw delivers burr-free cuts without heat distortion, making it ideal for fabrication, frame building and site work. A steel cold cut saw handles tougher materials without overheating or damaging the cut, so you’re ready to weld, bolt or fit straight away.
Slicing bar stock and pipe in workshops or on-site
Producing square, burr-free cuts for fast fit-ups
Suitable for frame building, site work and CNC prep

How do you use a cold cut saw?
To use a cold cut metal saw, secure the workpiece, align your cut, and lower the blade slowly for a clean, cool finish.
Steps for safe and accurate use:
Clamp the workpiece firmly to prevent movement
Mark your cut line clearly for alignment
Select the correct blade for the metal type (e.g. steel or aluminium)
Power on the saw and let the blade reach full speed
Lower the blade steadily to avoid forcing it through the material
Let the saw do the work; cold saws cut with minimal pressure
Once the cut is complete, release the trigger and wait for the blade to stop before lifting
Tip: Always wear eye protection and check blade condition before each use.
