    Makita 40v powerhouse

Bought this Makita 40v lone trimmer to replace my old worn out Honda 4 stroke trimmer. I chose this model as for the convenience of battery powered gear (also have lots of Makita batteries already) also the lower maintenance, expecting a reduction in power. Upon first use I was pleasantly impressed with the amount of power this machine has. Definitely cuts as well or if not better than the Honda petrol model I had previously (I have run both on 2.4mm line) so no complaints there. Though if you let your yard get a bit out of hand, expect to go through 3-4 5ah batteries. I’ve got a medium sized semi-rural block and if I stay ontop of the lawn, 1 5ah battery is enough (only use on low or medium speed/power setting). But the weight of the machine with the 5ah battery is lighter than what I’m used to. Also the ergonomics are for me spot on, the tool feels well balanced. Another bonus is the electric motor produces little to no vibration, this was nice to not have my hands tingling after spending a couple hours on it. The only negative for me is the bump feed head. I It functions perfectly fine, but I’m very used to the profile of the Honda one. The Makita bump feed head has a larger knob protruding from the bottom which means the line sits up a bit hight than what I’m used to. Other than my one grip (I’ll probably get used to it) I’m very happy I went with this line trimmer. I would recommend to anyone who can appreciate a well built tool.

Bought this one to replace my worn out old Honda 4 stroke line trimmer. I was buying battery for the convenience and less maintenance. But was pleasantly impressed by the power of this battery model. In actual fact. It seems more powerful than that of the petrol line trimmmer it replaced. I definitely recommend this product. However there are 2 things to be aware of if purchasing this line trimmer. It can go through the batteries. If you let your lawn go, you’ll probably want at least 3 5ah to get through it. But I feel a single 5ah will easily get through a whole standard house block with ease (low to medium power) The second gripe is the bump feed head. Functions absolutely fine, but it has a big bump underneath it which makes knocking down sections of grass cumbersome as I’m much more accustomed to the bump feed of the Honda. All in all a great and powerful machine.
