Got branches or shrubs that are out of arm's reach? There’s a tool for that—and we’ve got it! A pole saw helps extend your reach to remove those overhanging branches without fuss.
Owning one of these bad boys makes easy work of those tough, thick tree branches. They’ll reach where no other power tool can go, so you can spend less time climbing up and down ladders and more time kicking back.

Pole Saw FAQs
What is a pole saw?
A cordless pole saw is a saw that’s connected to a telescopic pole. It makes it much easier and safer to cut branches that are high up, without having to climb a ladder. You can expect a stretch of over three metres, with adjustable heights for all your pruning and trimming needs.
Often powered by batteries or fuel, pole saws have all the grunt you’d expect from a chainsaw—with added flexibility. They’re designed to be lightweight and stable, making it easy to manoeuvre your pole saw at any height.
There are manual versions available, but without power, you’ll work up a sweat and that quick job could end up taking a whole day!
What is the best pole saw to buy?
Not every pole saw is created equal. You want to choose a brand with a good reputation for quality and safety, while giving you enough power to get through the shrubbery at hand.
Your pole pruner should be comfortable, with multiple heights and a high cutting speed. If you do go with a battery-powered model, it needs to have a decent amount of runtime.
Keep in mind, your pole saw may be compatible with other tools in your shed. For example, you can get a Makita pole saw that uses the same 18V battery and battery charger as other Makita 18V power tools.
A Milwaukee pole saw or Husqvarna pole saw have a good amount of grunt for any of those tricky jobs around the house. Or, if you want something you can use at a professional level, a commercial Ego pole saw could be the one for you.
How to store a pole chain saw
If you want your pole saw to have a long life, you’ll need to store it away from the elements. A shed makes a great home for these tools, just make sure it’s dry and out of sunlight.
Sometimes power tools can drip oil, so it’s best to avoid leaving your power tools on outdoor tiles—or a white sofa. And, regardless of where it sleeps, your pole chain saw needs to be securely out of reach so tiny hands can’t grab it.
If you’re not going to be using it for a while, here’s how to store your pole saw:
- Read the user manual for any specific instructions
- Clean each component, including blades and handle
- Check your pole chain saw for signs of damage
- Apply lubricant to joints and pivots
Is it worth getting a pole saw?
Unless you’re a tradie, a pole saw isn’t a tool you’ll pull out every weekend. But, if your trees are growing and you’ve got oversized shrubs, a petrol or battery pole saw really will make a difference (and give you your weekend back).
As a versatile power tool that’s fit for a range of projects, you can safely trim, cut, or chop anything that needs it outside.
