What other options are there for hammer drills?
In addition to hammer mode, hammer drills feature two different modes: drill mode and drive mode.
- Drill mode uses HSS (high-speed steel) drill bits to drill wood, metals, and plastic holes.
- Drive mode is for fasteners into wood, metals, and plastics, using a Phillips head drill bit and screws suited for the material.
Drilling larger than 10mm holes in masonry
It should be noted that if your project necessitates drilling holes larger than 10mm in diameter in concrete, you'll need to use an SDS Rotary Hammer Drill.
With specialised SDS drill bits and hardware, SDS Rotary Rotary Hammer Drills are more robust and specialized for drilling large holes in masonry.
If you use your ordinary cordless hammer drill to drill holes more significant than 10mm in masonry, you'll find it useless and risk ruining your equipment and shattering your drill bits!
