Description

DESCRIPTION:

Sharpening tools or general grinding work is made a bit easier and more exact with RIKON’s low-speed bench grinders with motor speeds of only 1,750 RPM, where other grinders operate at 3.450 RPM! This lower speed means that metal being removed can be controlled better, and reduces heat build-up and ‘bluing’ of a cutting edge being sharpened – ruining the hardness and temper of the tool.

1HP Low-Speed Bench Grinder #80-808 is a larger size motor and will tackle the tough grinding jobs that are typical in production shops, as well as the finesse shaping and sharpening of hand tools. Tool rests on this machine are extra-large and flat, without a drill bit sharpening groove. Wheel flanges are cast metal. Grinder includes dual dust collection ports on the rear of the wheel guards and a second pair of eye shields with 2.5x magnification for close-up inspection of your edges being ground.

FEATURES:
  • Cast iron base with rubber feet reduces vibration
  • Holes in the base for mounting grinders to a bench or stand
  • Metal wheel guards for added protection
  • Adjustable cast metal tool rests give solid tool support
  • Adjustable safety eye shields give added protection
  • Adjustable spark shields keep users safe from hot sparks
  • Aluminum oxide grinding wheels give fine cutting action
  • 60 Grit abrasive wheel for rough grinding and metal removal
  • 120 Grit abrasive wheel for final sharpening or shaping
  • Includes flexible LED work light

A big mutha with power and its slow speed feature is a must have

I went with this grinder as the slower speed (around half most bench grinders) will keep the heat down and also aide with not taking off too much metal at a time on my drill bits and other items. It's reasonably quiet, not the same sound as traditional grinders, probably due to less air being swished around by the wheel speed or the motor itself. It has 1hp so no issues there and the aluminium oxide wheels are way better than the rubbish ones most grinders come with. They run cooler and by their nature they are more friable so they aren't as harsh on your knives and drill bits etc and helps avoid bluing. One is 60 grit and the other is 120 grit. I find 60 grit too much for most things but the slower speed may make this more useful. The tool rests are much wider than normal and gives you more platform to keep items steady on them. The flexible light consists of a row of LED's in it and is plenty bright when positioned over your work. The eye protection on one has a built in magnifier to help see those small drill bit points better and you also get two spare ones thrown in for when you end up scratching them over time. Nothing to fault, it's a good piece of gear and the included 5 year warranty shows they expect it to last. Last of all, it's a heavy item and one of the staff at Tool kit depot trolleyed it out to my car and helped lift it into the back. Great service and much better shopping here than those 'tools' down the road.
