Titebond Products FAQ
What is Titebond glue best for?
Titebond glue is best for bonding wood and wood-based materials like MDF, plywood, hardwoods, and softwoods. It's ideal for carpentry, joinery, furniture making, and general timber construction. The bond it creates is often stronger than the wood itself, making it a trusted choice for structural and finish work. Different formulas suit different conditions: Original for interior projects, Titebond II for moisture exposure, and Titebond III for full waterproof applications.
How long does Titebond wood glue take to dry?
Clamp time for most formulas is around 30 minutes to an hour, but full cure takes 24 hours. You can remove clamps earlier for light handling, but wait the full day before sanding, machining, or putting stress on the joint. Open time varies by formula. Original gives you about 5 minutes, while Titebond Extend offers up to 15 minutes for complex assemblies.
Is Titebond waterproof?
Titebond III is fully waterproof and meets ANSI/HPVA Type I water resistance standards, making it suitable for outdoor furniture, decking, and marine applications. Titebond II offers water resistance but isn't fully waterproof, but it handles moisture exposure well enough for interior projects with occasional dampness. The Original formula is for interior use only and shouldn't be used where water contact is expected.
Can you use Titebond on MDF?
Yes, these adhesives work great on MDF, particleboard, and other engineered wood products. The glue penetrates the porous surface and creates a solid bond that holds up under stress. Just make sure surfaces are clean, dry, and dust-free before applying. Use enough to get good coverage without overdoing it, as excess squeeze-out can be a pain to sand off once it sets.
Which Titebond formula should I use?
Choose your formula based on where the project lives and what it needs to handle:
Titebond Original: interior projects with no moisture exposure
Titebond II: interior work with occasional dampness or humidity
Titebond III: outdoor applications, full waterproofing required
Titebond Extend: complex assemblies that need longer open time
If you're unsure, go with Titebond II for general carpentry, as it covers most bases without the premium price tag of Titebond III.
